A Community On The Move

Novel Coronavirus (COVID 19)

We urge all residents of Rimbey and Surrounding Area to heed the directives of the Government of Alberta and our Chief Medical Officer to stay home and use physical distance measures if you need to go out for essentials to the grocery store, pharmacy and post office.

Council recognizes the extreme pressure this virus is putting our residents during this health crisis and subsequent financial crisis.  At the Special Meeting of Council 2020 Budget, Council passed the following motion:

Motion 071/20

Moved by Mayor Pankiw to waive the penalties for late payment of taxes on August 1, 2020 and waive late payment fees for utilities to December 31, 2020.

What this means to you, the rate payer.

1. Taxes - The Combined Tax and Assessment Notice will still be mailed in mid-May.  No penalty will be applied to outstanding taxes at July 31, 2020; however, all 2020 property taxes will be due and payable by December 31, 2020.  We are encouraging property owners to sign up for the Tax Installment Payment Plan to ensure your taxes are paid by December 31.  Please call the Town Office at 403-843-2113 to discuss payment options.

2. Utility Invoices – The monthly utility invoices will continue to be mailed at the beginning of each month.  Council has provided that no late payment fee will be charged on accounts not paid by the due date.  This penalty relief will continue until December 31, 2020.  Utility customers are encouraged to make full or partial payments as they are able to keep their accounts as current as possible.

Citizens are encouraged to mail in bill payments or pay on line through their banks.  Payments may also be made by credit card by calling the Administration Office at 403-843-2113. There is a drop box located on the south side of the Administration Building if you choose to pay by cheque.

All Town of Rimbey facilities have been closed to the public until further notice.  Facilities include the Peter Lougheed Community Centre, Vern Poffenroth Arena, Fitness Centre, all playgrounds, Administration Office and Public Works.  Daily operations at the Town continue as staff work to ensure the delivery of essential Town services including clean drinking water, waste water treatment, curbside waste collection and solid waste management.

Walking trails throughout the community will continue to be maintained by Town Staff and available for public use.  Please ensure you are taking the recommended physical distancing measures and remain two meters from others.

Protect Yourself and Others

In addition to safety related measures being taken by the Town, residents are encouraged to protect themselves and others against the spread of illness by doing the following:

Stay Home!

Use good hygiene practices such as frequent handwashing with warm soapy water or use hand sanitizer when you can't wash your hands

Cover coughs and sneezes using your elbow, shoulder or a tissue, wash your hands or use hand sanitizer

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands

Stay at home and away from others if you are feeling ill

Contact you primary health care provider or Health Link 811 if you have questions or concerns about your health.

The Town of Rimbey places the safety of its residents, staff and visitors as its top priority.  As the number of Coronavirus (Covid 19) cases continue to grow, Town Administration is closely monitoring the situation.  Reports from Alberta Health indicate the risk to Alberta residents of contracting the COVID 19 virus is still currently low.

Although the risk of infection is low, the Town of Rimbey is responding to the provincial health directive given Thursday by Alberta's Chief Medical Officer of Health to limit the gatherings of large groups of people to help slow the spread of the virus.

COVID-19 General Prevention Advice on Public Playground Use

This information is being provided to support parents and caregivers with considerations to promote safe outdoor play as it relates to COVID-19.

Avoid Using Public Playgrounds

Parents, caregivers, and children should avoid public playground use at this time due to the following reasons:

·         There is limited access to handwashing or hand sanitizer in public playgrounds.

·         There is no cleaning and disinfection between playground uses. Playgrounds are not cleaned on a regular basis.

·         There is no way to limit the number of children on public play equipment and the recommendation for social distancing is hard to enforce.

Instead of visiting public playgrounds parents and caregivers can:

·         Go for walks with children outside, keeping 2 meters away from others.

·         Play in yards or open park areas, away from others.

COVID-19 General Prevention

·         Wash your hands often and well

·         Avoid touching your face, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands

·         Avoid close contact with people who are sick

·         Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched

·         Stay at home and away from others if you are feeling ill

·         When sick, cover your cough and sneezes and then wash your hands
